Local Artists Invited to Apply to be Featured at March 9, 2024 Event

Canalway is seeking artists to create large scale lanterns from recycled materials for the third annual Towpath Trail Lantern Parade hosted by Canalway on March 9, 2024.

The Towpath Trail Lantern Parade, hosted by Canalway Partners, is a celebration of light, creativity and sustainability welcoming spring to the banks of the Cuyahoga River. The third annual event will take place on March 9, 2024.

“Local artists play a crucial role at the Towpath Trail Lantern Parade by leading the parade and illustrating the real potential of working with recycled materials. Their commissioned lanterns inspire others and motivate amateur artists to try something new in the future,” said Mera Cardenas, Executive Director of Canalway Partners.

At this spring forward event, selected artists will display commissioned pieces of illuminated art made from recycled materials. Each lantern will celebrate nature and encourage environmentalism. Previously featured artists include Debbie Apple Presser, Sam Fryberger, Darla Arnold, Eddie Olschansky, Joyce Morrow Jones, Haley Himiko Hudson Morris, and Ron Shelton.

Interested artists are asked to submit a statement of interest and images of previous work by January 3, 2024.
