Light Up Cleveland at this Spring Forward Stroll

Build Your Own Lantern and Join Local Artists to Welcome Spring to the Towpath Trail on March 12

The new Towpath Trail Lantern Parade is a celebration of light, creativity and sustainability welcoming spring to the banks of the Cuyahoga River. The parade will take place on March 12 at 6:30 PM. It will start and end at Sokolowski’s Overlook and include a 1.6 mile roundtrip along the Towpath Trail. Revolution Brass Band will lead the parade with a New Orleans Second-Line style performance.

The parade will feature local artists displaying illuminated art made from recycled materials. The lanterns will celebrate nature and encourage environmentalism.

Our partners at Upcycle Parts Shop are also hosting lantern-making workshops on March 5 and March 12. We can’t wait to see what you make!

Are there any size restrictions for my lantern?

No, feel free to make your lantern as large or small as you want, but please remember to use recycled or upcycled materials and include battery-powered light.

How do I light my lantern?

Your lantern must be lit with battery operated light. No candles will be permitted. Reusing a flashlight or bike light, battery powered string or rope lights or LED tea light candles are great options.

Yes, please feel free to decorate anything you’ll be bringing with you for the event, but please use as many recycled materials as possible!

Can I just buy a lantern and bring it?

We’re hoping to see as many upcycled lanterns as possible, but we’d love to have you at the event in any way that works for you.

Do I have to walk the entire length?

We encourage participants to join us for the full parade. But, since the route is out and back you can turn around at any point and meet us back at the starting location.
