Downtown Living has Potential to Energize Urban Centers

A recent Crain’s Cleveland article illustrates how the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area is sparking downtown development in Cleveland and Akron.

The article includes developments such as the Cascade Lofts, an adaptive reuse project in Akron along the Towpath Trail. In Cleveland, projects such as much of the housing in the Historic Warehouse District, are breathing new life into historic buildings while creating mixed-use neighborhoods in the core of the city.

The Ohio and Erie Canalway Coalition has used its Strategic Initiatives Program to help to fund efforts such as the Cleveland Centre Historic District that encourage historic preservation and adaptive reuse.
