The Towpath Marathon was awarded a Silver Star at the Greater Cleveland Trails & Greenways Conference 2016. The Silver Star represents “Excellence for those Programs and Projects of such unique nature and/or notable impact that their stories must be highlighted for Best Practices sharing across our region.”
The Towpath Marathon was established in 1992 to introduce the Towpath Trail as a new recreational amenity and to promote the establishment of the Ohio & Erie Canalway National Heritage Area. The race serves as a showcase for the Towpath Trail, creating awareness of the trail and serving as a celebration of healthy lifestyles.
The Towpath Marathon is the conclusion of The Towpath Trilogy Race Series. The Towpath Trilogy consists of three events, the Towpath Half in April, the Towpath Ten-Ten in June and the the Towpath Marathon in October- each with a variety of race lengths. The Trilogy features a variety of race lengths to accommodate runners (and walkers) of all experience levels.
